Founder
Basrah Obelisk Law Firm was founded by Dr. Buraq Al-Hamdy, a highly accomplished legal professional with over 20 years of experience in litigation, corporate law, tax compliance, and labor law. Since joining the Iraqi Bar Association in 1999, he has built a distinguished practice advising both Iraqi and international companies across a wide range of sectors, including major joint ventures between multinational corporations and state-owned entities.
Dr. Al-Hamdy is recognized for his expertise in corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution, as well as his extensive courtroom and arbitration experience. He regularly represents clients before Iraqi courts in matters involving labor disputes, taxation, social security, and commercial litigation, and has played a key advisory role in complex energy and infrastructure projects.
An accredited arbitrator with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Paris and the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA), he is also active in international arbitration practice. He holds a Ph.D. in Private International and Commercial Law from the University of Baghdad.
